Kirk Brunson began playing the bagpipes in 2002 at the age of eight. One year later he started lessons with sought after piping instructor Pipe Major Adam Holdaway, and has since had instruction from Adam Holdaway, Alasdair Gillies, Brian Donaldson, Donald F. Lindsay, and Willie McCallum, who is currently his main teacher. Since 2002, Kirk has progressed to professional, the top competitive level in the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. In 2006, he had the opportunity to join the Stuart Highlanders, and has played with them as they have rapidly progressed from grade 5 (beginner) to grade 2 (semi-professional). 2011 was the band's most successful season to date, being undefeated in US competitions, taking second overall at the North American Pipe Band Championships (Ontario, Canada), and placing fifth overall at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. The Stuart Highlanders seek to build off this success, and are New England's premier piper band and one of the top pipe bands in the United States.

In addition to playing with the Stuart Highlanders, Kirk also competes actively in solo competitions throughout the US. In 2011, he took second overall at the Robert Gilchrist Memorial and third overall at the Balmoral Classic. In 2012, he enjoyed a terrific season with clean sweeps at both the Sandy Jones Invitational and the United States Piping Foundation's Amateur Championship, in addition to winning the overall at the US Junior Piping Championship and taking prizes at both the Nicol Brown Invitational and the George Sherriff Memorial. Kirk is looking to continue this success in 2013 and plans to start competing actively throughout Canada and Scotland.

Kirk also has a great deal of experience playing at non-competitive events. Some of the events he has played for include weddings, funerals, memorial services, parades, graduations, Robert Dinners, private parties, anniversaries, fundraisers, corporate events, St Patty's Day festivities, and many more. Additionally, he has performed in a number of concerts throughout the US and Canada as a member of the Stuart Highlanders. From this experience and the tutelage of Adam Holdaway, Donald Lindsay, and Willie McCallum, Kirk is rapidly progressing and is one of North America's most promising young bagpipers.
